Lesson 1: Energy and Work

In this lesson, students are introduced to the concept of energy with a Bill Nye video highlighting some key concepts.

After this introduction, the class works through a teacher guided note that covers the following topics: Energy, Properties of Energy, Kinetic and Potential Energy, Types of Energy, Work, and Work and Direction.  Following the note, practice problems are provided for the students.

The consolidation activity is a "Work Charades" game in which students take turns performing an action in the classroom.  Classmates must determine if work is being done and on which object.  Examples include jumping, pushing a book, or pushing a wall, etc.
