Lesson 3: Conservation of Energy

To introduce this lesson, students learn about the physics behind rollercoasters and how the conservation of energy is key to their function.

After this introduction, students are presented with three examples, related to a pendulum, a roller-coaster, and a diver.  As they work through these examples they make connection about the relationship between kinetic and potential energy.

To finish the class students play with a roller-coaster gizmo to further explore the concepts learned in this lesson.  A reflection in their science journal can be used to assess their understanding
